We’ve all seen the advancements in mobile based technology advance faster than the average person could have ever imagined. Just a few years ago, no one even knew what an app was, yet today these apps and smartphones, like the HTC Android Phone, have become an integral part of our daily lives. It’s not as though we couldn’t get by without them, but our mobile phones evolve to a point that they’re so comparable to the way we live our lives. This isn’t a coincidence. That’s why these devices are designed and developed the way they are, so we can’t say no to them. It’s difficult to imagine how more integrated these devices can become, but we can imagine that they’re going to become a greater, not lesser, part of what we do within the space of a decade.
No Wallet? No Problem
Our wallet or purse is one item that we just haven’t managed to detach from. It houses all of our necessary information and makes getting through the average day impossible without it. In the coming years, we’re going to see an increasing amount of information digitized to a degree that we’ll carry around most everything we need on a similar mobile device. These digital Swiss Army Knives will be so important that it would be a nightmare to imagine losing it. There’s a new type of tech called “near-field communications” that’s being developed that would turn our cell phones into a credit/debit card. There would be a tiny chip imbedded in the phone that would use a touch-sensitive interface and allow you to make purchases, transfers, and account changes. It will revolutionize they way we spend and further integrate the systems of our lives.
Unlimited Access
Our phones can do many things already such as surf the web, watch videos, and listen to music, but try to imagine several generations removed from now. With every generation of phones we see giant leaps forward. In ten years, all of these things will be accessible, but to a degree, that’s unheard of. We’ll likely be able to access any media source with the freedom of movement and versatility and all from our pocket. Imagine watching TV or downloading a film or anything else media related. Some developers are already working on holographic integration, but this will likely be within the next fifteen years. Who knows, at this rate it may happen sooner.
Energy Technology
Energy is perhaps the most important change that’s going to take place and the results will go far beyond the cell phone application. Improved battery sources and pioneering in the world of nanotechnology will likely replace what we use for energy sources within the space of a decade. Think of tiny little nanobytes generating power through simple kinetic energy and the harnessing of mere movement. This will give many of the electronic we use today a near limitless power source.
We’re already skirting the boarder with science-fiction with some of our existing capabilities. Technology stands on an edge where breakthroughs are going to happen quicker and quicker. Technology will likely start looking a lot stranger than it currently does, and it’s applications will only be limited by our mind’s ability to imagine them.
